Workshop: Recognising and Responding to Child Abuse

Death and injury from child abuse are preventable, but everyone involved with a child needs to do their part. Can you?

* Refer a child to the best help available?
* Understand the legal aspects of reporting child abuse?
* Cope with your emotions about child abuse?

* Signs and symptoms of abuse
* How to respond if a child discloses abuse
* Do’s and Don’ts in talking to children
* Legal requirements about reporting abuse
* What to do to protect a child
* How to stand up for the child when you meet resistance from others
* How a Child Protection Policy can help
* How to deal with our own feelings
* Where to refer and get the help needed.

Who should register?
This workshop is particularly suitable for anyone who is involved with children and may have to act or respond to a child at risk. This workshop will involve small and large group discussion, lecture and role play. Participants are also encouraged to share their ideas and experiences. Handouts will be provided and a certificate of attendance will be given to all those completing the workshop.
